Jeep Grille Wall Art

I just scored a TJ Grille on craigslist that I was hoping to paint, put some LED lights in, and hang on the wall on the big blank spot right behind my couch.

I want to see pictures of a similar setup.

I know this is an old thread, but I couldn't help posting what I just picked up in Denver this week.

I pulled my chrome grill cover for my LJ within hours of bringing the jeep home because I couldn't stand it. A few days later I just stuck it up on the garage wall with my old Colorado plate from my YJ, now I really like the thing...

I want to do more with it, I like some of the ideas here.

I think it would be cool to find some speakers to put into the headlights and paint the covers silver. Lights would also be cool too... maybe combine the two ideas and get LED strings and put them around the lights (either on the outside or inside somehow).

Where can you buy one online?
Here is some CJ style ones...

So I decided to look around I found a CJ7 style grill.

I plan on adding 6.5" ceiling style speakers (or 8s) where the headlights are and then paint the speaker cover(grill) silver to look like the headlights. Then I plan on adding white LEDs to give the effect that they are on. Not sure about the signals but I am open for ideas.

Picture from the craigslist add:

After I got it home:

15ish min later:

Also, should I repaint it?

it would be cool to make a kids bed with a jeep grill for the head board and cj tail gate for the foot board. then you could fold the tailgate down for storage. no kids yet, but when have a son ill make him a jeep bed!

I used to be into the full size jeeps. So I made these from a 77 wagoneer I scraped.
Flex plate clock.

I don't have this anymore or my 89wagoneer. Both sold to my brother. 89 is his DD and he has the grill on his 88wagoneer.

This is in my room, 60's Commando grill.

When I get my own place I plan on getting a bunch of jeep grills for the walls. I almost bought a CJ golden eagle hood a few weeks ago for the wall.

So I have made some progress...

I had started to sand the grill myself but quickly realized that not only would it take me forever but it would be very difficult to get to all of the tight spots. I ended up getting it sandblasted down and the place I had it done also offered powder coating for what I thought was an excellent price for a perfect finish.

Before I started sanding and when I had still planned to paint it myself (OD Green):

Here are a couple after the sandblasting was completed:

I had spent a little over $20 in the painting supplies pictured above that I ended up taking back. The sandblasting cost me $40... and the coating is going to be another $75.

I got the grille back today and I think it looks great!
Check out the pics:

The finish:

I would describe the color as a flat black gloss and I want my whole TJ done with this color!

I picked up a chrome CJ grille overlay from CL a while back. It had some surface rust but was in good shape overall. I took the wire wheel to it and then painted it.
The second pic only shows it in primer, but it currently is black. I am always on the hunt for more overlays. The whole grille would be cool if you want to do stuff with it (add lights, radio, etc), but I think the lower profile overlay is better for "wall art". I hope to add a YJ, TJ, and JK at some point.
