I'd consider investing in a military H1 if the opportunity ever arose. They actually have a great set up for off roading and going anywhere. Turbo diesel V8, military grade independent front and rear suspension. Snorkel, armor, puncture resistant tires etc.. Those are the real hummers, civilian hummers suck period. But if I could get my hands on a military Jeep like a MB or GPW, forget the hummer!

After being in the Army I wouldn't give much far one of their rejects. They were junk from the day they were new. I have never seen a new vehicle need as much repairs as a new m1025 or similar. I have seen everything get replaced one time or another on them while they have been less than 1 month old.

Do they even sell them? I have looked into it and have been told that the surplus ones are crushed. Not sure if it's true or not.

I have a Cummins common rail sitting around that I'd put in one if it was available.

Slim if any now make it to surplus. Most of them get recycled/refurbished, some get placed out on the range as targets, Most of the up-armoreds make it to theater of operation sooner or later where they do not return.

I just don't have one on mine because I have yet to recover one. Even then, I doubt I will as the phrase has just lost it's luster and become overplayed with me (much like the "pissing Calvin" stickers). Most of the pics in this thread do not have those stickers, so it makes me question if someone with that sticker has ever even really rescued a Hummer.

Yeah put a rubicon against a stock H1 and I think it would be close too. When my rubi was stock it did some crazy stuff that I didnt expect it to do

You know what symbolizes what was wrong with Jeep? My Miata came with recovery hooks, yet I had to install them on my XJ!! Why? Because Chryser was run by beancounters, not the car enthusiasts. They crippled otherwise well engineered vehicles for the same of saving a few beans, because they knew their intended purpose was mallcrawling.

AMC didn't make the original HMMWV, it was always AM General.
most YJs came with skid plates and recovery hooks front and back!
