Oh you...

I never make the same mistake twice - it's more like three or four times.

then to keep everything as low profile as possible, I made the 3.5'x5' rack flat and cut out where the "humps" in the top bars are. then I welded on 8 tie downs around the "basket", next I drilled through the frame of the "basket" and the top pipes and bolted it straight to the rack. then I took some 2x3" angle iron and cut it to length, punched the bolt holes and then mounted the awning to that and then bolted it all to the basket frame.
next I mounted the rotopax and element ramps using bolts and large washer so as to just bolt right up though the expanded metal.
then I had a set of Rigid floods sitting in the shop, so I mounted those up top also.
then just for camping and working at night or something I added a 36" strip of LEDs inside the awning, when its zipped up, you cant see them, but when the awnings deployed it lights it up under the awning very nicely..

done with the rack for now, or until I think of something else
What kind of LEDs did you use and where did you purchase them

Just crawled the hell out of this thread, I am so glad I did not change over to a Tj now, even though I think mine will end up being more a extended wheeling rig, I want to build a trailer to haul most of the heavy gear and I have to get my tire off the roof, and a high clearance hitch, both of those can be fixed by bumpers and tank tuck, I need a winch so I think I will do a custom tube bumper or get the rough country winch mount for the Wj and mod my brush guard to work with that. As far as tires 33s or 32s. Lift long arms with 4.5" heavy duty springs. Going to be adding on board air and a power inverter.

I really like the idea of being self reliable and the idea if being able to get out of town quickly with the family safely abroad plus being able to go were normal 4x4s can't go would make me sleep better at night.
