a fellow jeeper gave me this Kongo roof rack off a TJ he had bought. was rusty, had a bend in it, but overall good. so to make it fit my LJ I cut the top pipes and put about a 16" piece of pipe to lengthen it.
then to keep everything as low profile as possible, I made the 3.5'x5' rack flat and cut out where the "humps" in the top bars are. then I welded on 8 tie downs around the "basket", next I drilled through the frame of the "basket" and the top pipes and bolted it straight to the rack. then I took some 2x3" angle iron and cut it to length, punched the bolt holes and then mounted the awning to that and then bolted it all to the basket frame.
next I mounted the rotopax and element ramps using bolts and large washer so as to just bolt right up though the expanded metal.
then I had a set of Rigid floods sitting in the shop, so I mounted those up top also.
then just for camping and working at night or something I added a 36" strip of LEDs inside the awning, when its zipped up, you cant see them, but when the awnings deployed it lights it up under the awning very nicely..
done with the rack for now, or until I think of something else
