very nice, Mud Machine! I think I am going to remove the factory TJ dash completely and build a metal dash similar to the CJ style, only designed with an aftermarket cage and gauges in mind.

I've been thinking this as well but the profile behind the dash doesn't seem to really allow it. I would also like to see if anyone has actually pulled it off and kept full functionality.

I have been thinking about this for quite some time and have not seen anyone else do it yet. If you keep the stock steering wheel, it will look odd with a metal dash, so goodbye to the airbags (if you care..). I would still like to do it in the future, but it is quite a project. If you have access to a metal shop with a break, you could make it fairly easily. The other option would be to find an old CJ dash and modify it. Would love to see a build thread on this.

my jeep is pretty much just for the trails so everything under the dash is gone...i had to cut the stock dash up to fit my old tranny and it just looked like #$%^...the only thing left the steering wheel. Im probably going to build up something around that...we'll see how it goes

I hope to start tearing mine down this week. Don't plan on keeping the factory gauges or airbags so it shouldn't be too difficult. I'm really surprised someone hadn't done one race car style with sheet metal.

Interested to see where this goes.

I think someone did a Willys MB theme on a TJ a while back and did a flat dash. It actually came out pretty good, with a period looking top and all.
