Well, we've got threads for Willys, Scramblers, black Jeep's, etc, etc. How 'bout pics of CJ-6's? I realize they were rare, so I don't expect too many responses, but you never know! (As soon as I get my post cont up, I'll post pics of mine!)
I know that CJ. It's actually a '75 CJ5 that was stretched to CJ6 length and rebuilt by a shop in Denver. It has HP Dana 50's (yes, 50s) front and rear and an LS1 under the hood. When the former owner did the conversion I bought his old narrow track Dana 44 that had an ARB in it. About two years ago I saw it being sold in an auction it wasn't owned by the guy who had it converted either. Every once in a while I see it on the street.
i like scramblers but absolutely love the cj-6 - one of the reasons i got the two door unlimited - there was one on ebay for sale a little while back - painted impact orange of all colors - it took all of my will not to put in a bid for it - might have images saved ... i'll look
You need to share the full-size picture by clicking on the thumb-nail (what you posted above) and clicking on ShareThis then GetLinkCode .. finally, choose the link-code for forums ... and you get this:
The images I uploaded to Photobucket were fullsize images, and it looks like they got re-sized during the upload, so I must have done something wrong. Is there a setting when you upload?
The red one is mine, the yellow one is my inspiration if you will! I was just getting ready to post the yellow one now that I have a better idea of the process, but you beat me to it. Funny story about the yellow one, kinda long, so sorry to take advantage:
Back in college I was surfing through the magazines and saw the latest issue of 4WD & Sport Utility. On the cover was a bright yellow CJ-6 owned by Rick Russell of Sidekick Offroad. I had never seen one before and was immediately interested. So, I bought the magazine. Inside the magazine was an article titled "The Long and Short of It" which covered two Jeeps from the Farmington area...one a CJ-5 and the other a CJ-6....a different one from the cover. I went from never seeing one before to seeing two pristine examples in one issue. My interest was definitely piqued. Fast forward to Moab EJS 2007 and I was on my way back from Moab to Durango where we were vacationing (I was able to get away for the day to hit the vendor show) and parked at the Hole in the Rock RV campground was this Jeep, which I immediately recognized from nearly a decade and a half earlier. So I pulled over and snapped a few photos, got some specs, chatted with the owner (really nice guy....member of the Cliffhangers 4WD club in Farmington, NM). Earlier in the day, I had met Rick Russell, but he was in his new ride, not his CJ-6. Would have been too funny to meet them both on the same day, see both their Jeep's, just like when I found the magazine.
Truth be told, the yellow CJ-6 pictured is phenomenal. The picture doesn't do it justice. The body work is flawless, probably better than new. And, he wheels it regularly. The year prior to this picture being taken, he put it on its side on the Moab Rim Trail, and all he did was replace the soft top, as the cage saved them from a complete rollover. I've still got a long ways to go on mine, but I'll get there sooner or later!
^^^ Id love to find that red one too. It even has the Renegade wheels.
I love '6's. Like a combination of my 2 favorite Jeeps, the CJ5 and the LJ wrangler. Now, a CJ6 with a full cage on an LJ chassis with a Hemi, that is beauty.
Great responses so far! I need to get on my horse and find some more pics, SKT's got this down!
I really like the Jeep in the "captain morgan" shot (well, actually I llike all of them). I don't have a problem with today's beefed up rigs, but there's just something about a classic Jeep sitting out in front of a cabin. I bet that rig pretty much took its occupants wherever they wanted to go....
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
