Painted the top of the front fenders also. Planning on doing the windshield surround soon.

Im looking to paint my grill. Are you saying, all you need to do for prep is scuff it up with a red scotchbrite? Tape it and spray it? Sounds to easy.

Thanks in advance for any help, Im looking for prep help,

Jake

I'm looking to do this also. Seems like a lot of examples are using a flatter paint. Is flat or a semi-gloss better? And what brands work well? I figured I would use a primer first or is that even necessary?

Thanks.

I just painted my whole jeep a few months ago, I went with semi-gloss because it seems like it cleans up easier. flat tends to leave mud or mud stains in the paint, krylon fusion has always worked well for me when it comes to spray paint. However when I painted mine I did the whole jeep with Aervoe spray cans

I finally took advantage of some nice weather and painted my grill
Came out great, I love the look. Also added some tow hooks.

Thanks for all the help, guys and gals. Next will be the bumbers and fender flares.
Jake

What paint did you use and how did you prep? I have a chrome overlay on my YJ that is bugging me, along with many other chrome additions the last owner added.

Thanks, I hit it with 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of bedliner. Im not much of a painter. I love the bedliner, the texture hides mistakes well. I painted my mirror brackets as well.

I did what coinpurse said to do. Just scuffed it with a red scotchbrite pad then wiped it down with mineral spirits then some soap and water. Taped it off and sprayed it.

Jake

Anybody have any pics of their XJ's? I'm thinking about painting just the middle grill insert black but leaving the headlight bezels the body color.
