Did a little research in my Corvette books, the Vette is a 66 and this is verified by the absence of air vents on the upper "B" pillar. The hood is a big block hood indicating a big block engine. However, parts on Corvettes get swapped around just like we do on Jeeps. So the hood may not be original, probably is though. It is not a split window as somebody asked, split window was 63 only, and the hood, front fenders and "B" pillar don't match up with 63vents and body indentions.
If it is an all original big block Vette, restored, is worth any where from mid 50s to low six figures. Story behind it doesn't really matter, letting it rot away without any attempt at arrested decay is just sad. While the owner may be hanging onto it for sentimental value, at the end of the day, we are all just caretakers of what we own, and sooner or later, hopefully sooner, that Vette will end up in the hands of somebody that has a true appreciation for what it is. Oh, and the other Vette, probably a 78 to 80, nothing special about it, those model years of Vettes have been referred to as 2 seat Malibus.

Great info tacjeep99 Thanks - I know nothing about a Vette I'm 33 and that Vette has been there as long as I can remember. I agree it def would be better to redo it and drive it in remberence of your son than let it rot.
I drive about 3-4000 miles month I cover most of WV, Eastern KY and Eastern OH I see all kinds of crazy "stuff" I'll start taking pix. Theres a CJ right down from it with atleast a 6 inch bodylift for sale. A double wide trailer on blocks prob 12ft plus high with a new Challenger in drive way. |

I grew up near Wheeling, let me know if you find anything out that way. Also, are you aware of Jeep in WV?

The picture isn't that clear, coupled with reading glasses, I goofed. The fuel injection emblem pictures in the book I have are just a bar design with "Fuel Injection" stamped on the bar. Your are right about the big blocks not being fuel injected. That puzzled me to, why would Fuel Injection emblems be on a big block car? However, from what I have seen, Corvette hoods get swapped around like CJ2 and CJ3 windshields, so Corvette hoods may not be a good indicator of what is under the hood. You know even in the shape that Vette is in it is still worth a lot of money if it is all original. What a waste. I'll say it again, I don't care what the guy's reasons are for holding onto it, it needs to be under cover and away from the midnite parts vultures that would love to get their hands on it and part it out. BTW, my dream garage would have a Vette, a Jeep, and a Land Cruiser, and then whatever the wife wants to drive. So far, got the Jeep and the Land Cruiser, someday, a Corvette. |

I'll get better pic on 15th also snag pic of the CJ with goofy lift
1997 XJ - I dont cover Wheeling area to often, mainly central southern WV. I'm also on Jeep in WV as WVTJ I know that car is all orginal its never been moved or touched it has to have real low miles. The guys house is the same way its like since his son died he gave up and hasnt done anything real sad. I would have kept the car up as a tribute not let it rot. I grew up driving by it everday on the school bus, I love that car. |

Agreed. It looks like in a good shape besides seeing what shape the floor pans are in.

OMG! this actually made me cry, all those hardworking Jeeps of WWII are waiting in line for the scrapper, it's so sad that a bunch of these Jeeps had fates like this, only a hand full of GI's with a sense of history have saved them, my great grandfather brought back a MB and GPW after the war, too bad he sold them.

Well, this is one of the most fascinating but disturbing threads I've ever come across on any website. Makes me want to further my dedication to keep my XJ as nice as possible for as long as possible.
As far as the Vettes go, the pic of 'em just sitting there was moving enough, but then to hear the back story of WHY they're just sitting there - wow. I agree w/most of the other posters - I would want to keep it looking like it did when my son left. I understand the dad's thinking in leaving just as it sat when his son left, but it would mean more to me if I kept it looking like it did when he left. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. |
