What I did Christmas Eve

Here's some photos of what I did Christmas Eve. I was on my way out to Las Vegas (family thing) on the motorbike and had arranged with a friend to meet me at Primm, NV.

I parked the bike and Andy (my friend who lives in Vegas) picked me up in his Jeep. We headed south on the I-15 to Yates Well Rd. We exited and headed north on a dirt road to the Colosseum Mine.

This is a strip mine pit that was worked off/on for 120 years ceasing in mid-92 which produced gold/silver. The mine at the widest point at the top is approximately 1600' wide and about 750' deep (by EPA records). At the bottom is a beautiful blue green pool covering about 3 acres.

I had a good time wandering around. It's always great to get out and see things even if you just ride along. Enjoy the photos.

Sun bleached bones of a cow.

Bird of prey's nest in a windmill.

Clouds.

Desert quail.

Small plant and small flower.

The Colosseum Mine.

Can you see Andy's Jeep?

Pyrite in some rocks, see the small pyrite cube.

Andy reading at the lunch spot.

Oh and Merry Christmas to all.

Nope too cold and some question as to the water quality (trace arsenic?). I'd like to float a kayak or inflatable in there though. Figuring it could be 90' or more deep.

Those are some beautiful pictures. I love the terrain in the west. Hope to one day move there.
