yeah, pearl pass was awesome. it was closed, so i moved it to the end of the trip in hopes of it being open by then and i got lucky. part of it in the final climb to the pass seemed to have been washed out, but it was adequately repaired

Here are a few panoramic shots I pieced together. There are a few little glitches from the software I used, but you get the idea.

This is from Cottonwood Pass looking east

This is looking down the other side of Imogene Pass from Telluride

From the side of Mt. Sneffels, looking into Yankee Boy Basin

Down onto hwy 550 and Red Mtn. Pass

Telluride from Black Bear Pass trail

The lake above Ophir Pass

Thanks for taking the time to post all those pics. They say pictures don't do justice, so I can only imagine how it must look in person. I have the same book as well as the one on Moab, but I really want to do Colorado first. Two top priorities on my bucket list!

AMAZING! You deffinetly are very lucky to be able to go on such a long journey especailly with your dad. Not sure how many dads would make that sacrifice for thier sons.

yeah the pictures just don't quite capture the size of the place nor the steepness of some of the trails

I've been to Denver and Colorado Springs on business many years ago. After reviewing your posts/pics I'm heading back and this time, like you and your dad, I'm driving the TJ. Great Pics and write up. Thank you.

Thanks for sharing. Like everyone else I'd love to do that trip someday. I already have both of Wells CO books.

I have one question though. How hard is it to get by on coming traffic on those narrow roads? Or are some of the roads one ways. Coming from the flat lands my biggest fear about those trails is the narrow shelf roads.

Well it depends/kinda hard for me to say because we encountered very light traffic to my surprise. Pearl Pass had a lot of narrow sections that stayed narrow for a long time, so if you did run into somebody, one of you is gonna be backing up for a while. The other narrow trails like Imogene and Black bear and Ophir all had enough room on the lower parts, and in higher areas you can usually see oncoming traffic due to the lack of trees. Oh and the narrowist part of Black Bear (switchbacks) is all one way - downhill. I wouldn't stress about it, but be comfortable with possibly backing up if needed, and look up/down the trail whenever you have a chance.

p.s. - how is Wells book for northern colorado? how many trails did he come up with? thanks.
