I used this trail guide:

And this atlas (best map ever made - I think they have a Washington one)

My wife and I were in Telluride for the Rotary 4x4 tour about 2 weeks ago. Thanks for the pictures and the write up, that area is like heaven! The only problem is that I now owe my wife a vacation on a beach

New Mexico Driving Rules...

As a general rule, the vehicle most in need of a significant amount of bodywork (for which the driver is most likely uninsured) always has the right of way.
Never use directional signals when changing lanes. They only serve to give away your next move, causing most NM drivers to speed up and not let you in. In fact, use of directional signals within most large NM city limits is actual illegal.
NM law states that at least 50% of all paved surfaces within the state must be under construction at any one time. In all construction zones, at least half of the available lanes must be closed, regardless of whether any actual construction is be accomplished or not. Construction signs shall be regularly repositioned in order to warn drivers about upcoming lane closures immediately after they pass the last exit before traffic backups.

Driving through constructions zones with upcoming lane closures is a popular game in NM. It’s called the "speed up and pass as many cars as you can, then see how close to the lane closure you can squeeze back into traffic before hitting any of the orange construction barrels" game.
I have a Panasconic Lumix LZ-1. Its just a regular digital camera and it's only 4 megapxls, but the lense seems to be pretty good. For this trip I had it on a "vivid" color setting which I think gets closer to the actual colors in most pictures than shooting standard.

What do you remember the date you where in Silverthorne? I only saw one other XJ with my wheels, and that was in Yankee Boy.

Man,

This looked like an amazing trip. I've had my jeep for a year now...I think it's time to venture out and do a trip like this. The San Juans have been on my "to do" list. I only live about 7 hours from Durango. Thanks for the report!

Great trip report! My son and I will be doing a lot of the same trails when we head out from Florida on September 8th. I'll be driving my TJ Rubicon and towing a small trailer, but Pearl will be our highlight!

Can't wait... thanks for sharing the pics!
