SIRA 4x4 does Tellico, 10/21 - 10/28
A group of about 10 of us from SIRA 4x4 made the trek down to Murphy, NC for our first annual Big Trip. We had a few from CT, one from OH, a couple from PA, NJ, one from MD, and another from DE - 5 rigs total. Normally we'd be wheeling Rausch Creek and the old Paragon when it was open, but we were ready to try something different.
I think that for most of us, Tellico turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Just getting through the toughest trails was a challenge for our group of mildly built jeeps, and all the obstacles had lines that could test the big guys. We got to meet some really nice people, learn how to wheel different types of terrain, and make some more educated decisions about the mods to plan for wherever our next big trip takes us. ![]() We stayed at Tellico Cabins, in the Grand Cherokee. It was clean, well maintained, and very comfy after a long day on the trails, even for 10 people. The owners were very nice people who are working hard to maintain OHV access. We'd definitely recommend them for a place to stay. ![]() ![]() On to the fun stuff. We managed to bring record rainfall with us, so the first couple days on the trail were miserable. These shots on upper 2 do a good job of showing what the conditions were like: ![]() ![]() ![]()

The bottom of slickrock was still a mudhole by the time we hit it. Or maybe it's always a mudhole. Who knows. Maybe we just suck at the no traction, high wheelspeed climbs.
I dont have many pics of this trail, cameras were put away to do some winching and then we stopped for lunch. ![]() ![]() |

Guardrail and helicopter pad were really cool. Here's me setting up for guardrail:
