There is a wildfire up on Potts right now. The USFS is going to let it burn, as there are no dwellings up there.

Absolutely. If I don't check this thread, PM me to remind me later in the week.

As of right now, it's about 1000 acre fire. The USFS is using Potts trail as a containment line, and is obviously closed for the time being.

There are about 50 firefighters, 2 dozers, and a helicopter working the fire - from what I was told - they are just trying to contain it right now.

The USFS is suggesting it was human caused, but on other details are being given right now.

The mountain is still on fire. As of this morning, 6906 acres burned, 60% containment now. We have rain in the forecast, so hopefully it will be out soon.

From a local source:

"I received a note that they are going to try to have the Jeep trail open by May 5th. This is depending upon weather, monsoons, locusts etc...

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT A FIRM DATE!!!!

The Pines campground has reopened.

I will post more as I find out more. "

Fire is out - has been for a few weeks now. One source said the trail opened last weekend, one says it is this weekend (and this is the one I believe).

I'll try to verify with the USFS today.
