PICTURES: Snow Run to Evan's Creek (WA)

Evan's Creek Snow Run
March 11th, 2006

This Saturday Jeff, one of the members of my local Jeep club, led a few of us on a run up a long-forgotten trail on the back side of Evan's Creek, one of the local ORV parks up in the Seattle area. All told it was a small group with Jeff's FJ40 three yellow TJs belonging to myself, I_Flex, and Kizer. The route took us high into the Cascades where 1-2 ft of snow covered the trail. Visability was difficult due to the snow dumping on us from the low hanging branches. At one point we crossed an old washed out bridge before plowing onward to "the swamp" where we had to turn around. Weather was chill but not too cold and at least it wasn't raining. We all had a blast despite progress that slowed to about 1mph with everybody needing at least 2 winching pulls (except maaaybe Kizer). I needed to do some self extraction with my winch at least 4 times from being stuck and 1 time because there was ZERO traction. I_Flex needed some tugs with the winch and in one spot we had to tie togethr 3 tow straps to pull him up a hill. Aaaaah... a good day.

More pictures available on my website.

Jeff leading the way, somehow.

Pausing at the washed out bridge.

Crossing the washout.

I_Flex working his way across, too.

Kizer bringing up the tail end over the old log bridge.
Jeff spots him to make sure he doesn't slide off.

The trail continues on as it disappears into the trees.

Jeff gets his FJ sideways and needs to winch forward.

Driving through "the swam" area.

Close up of my rig in action.

It also had a Cadilack BIG block V8 under the hood and a locker out back. Jeff's a cool guy and it's always a toss up as to whether he brings his FJ40 or a Suzuki Samurai. Both work great on the trail.

I have a morning ritual that I need to share. I call it "the terminator". First I crouch down in the shower in the classic "naked terminator traveling through time" pose. With my eyes closed I crouch there for a minute, visualizing either Arnold or the guy from the second movie (not the chick in the third one because that one sucked) and I start to hum the terminator theme. Then I slowly rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me to proceed through my day as an emotionless, cyborg badass. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It ruins the fantasy.
