Pics from Silver Lake Sand Dunes - Sept 8/9

Pics from this past weekend.....it was an awesome time...

Me trying to climb the big test hill

Runnin' through some deep water holes

At another water hole, trying to decide whether or not to run it

A collective shot of the vehicles in our group

Shallow water hole

Coming out of a deeper water hole

My dang muffler pipe that runs to the cat popped off! This is me and a guy under there fixing it

Since I had my Jeep jacked up on a log for repairs, why not take a poser shot?

Coming out of yet another deep water hole

Getting on the dunes

Getting ready to run through a shallow waterhole

This was great! My cousin was sitting there with his windows down. I flew through the waterhole and soaked everyone inside his blazer

Me winching my cousin at the top of the test hill

Random shot

A broad shot of the dunes

Hope you like!

Nice pics. I haven't been out there in years. Looking forward to getting my TJ out there.

How'd the four banger do? I have one too.

How'd the 'burban do? I have one of those too. Was he limited on dune peaks by the LWB? I have too many kids to just take the TJ ....

Hey thanks!
The 4 banger holds her own. There are certain spots that, without enough momentum, you won't make it. I think there was 2 or 3 times when I had to back down a hill and get even more initial speed. The big test hill is doable but just barely.

As for the suburban, in terms of power, it handled just fine. The LWB did cause him to get stuck pretty bad once on the top of a hill. Other than that, he had no problems....and he had an absolutely full car.

nice pics, jeep looks good Looks like there werent that many people there, kinda opposite of last weekend for me. Did you go through the water hole that is on the north side of the dunes Lake Michigan side? Last weekend it was about 5 feet deep, I didnt dare go through that after I seen a few trucks on 36"s and 6in lifts to the tailgate

Yea, I went through that one, definately the deepest. It was not 5 feet deep thank god! I was definately not being smart about it by watching to see how deep it was on bigger trucks.....I was just slowly driving into them hoping i didn't immediatly sink into a deathly abyss.

Man, that looks like fun. I shot you a PM on Friday night since I was going to try to make it up there Sunday, but I was too late. Us Michiganders should hit up the Mounds sometime in the next couple of weeks.

Nice pics man! Last time I was there (when I had my xj), The highest part of test hill was 112 ft (GPS tested). I burried myself on it, so tried it again and made it.

Silver lake is definitely a very fun place to go visit.

I have a morning ritual that I need to share. I call it "the terminator". First I crouch down in the shower in the classic "naked terminator traveling through time" pose. With my eyes closed I crouch there for a minute, visualizing either Arnold or the guy from the second movie (not the chick in the third one because that one sucked) and I start to hum the terminator theme. Then I slowly rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me to proceed through my day as an emotionless, cyborg badass. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It ruins the fantasy.

No, we probably wont get back out until next year. Silver Lake is about a 4 hour drive for us so it generally takes some planning and such.
