Northern ontario trail: part deux
well i grew some nuts and decided to take my stock jeep out again.
this time i went a little further into the trail than before. i wasn't doing so bad going down the hills, but when it came time to come back up them....well i was pretty stuck. fortunatly this time i had my buddy's 02 silverado to pull me out. later we passed by a pretty neat washout. my buddy told me to try and drive lengthwise through it. i put my front tires in and sank about two feet. i told him i couldn't do it and he said "just go in another three feet" i'll take a picture, it'll look cool". i decided not to, so he went ahead and stuck HIS front tires in. same thing, two foot drop. so i told him "just go in another three feet...". he actually did and ended up getting good and stuck. the more he spun the deeper he got. i tried pulling him out but just spun the tires (nice smoke show though). anyway 8 hours and a transport tow truck later we got him out of the hole (he only charged us $50). here are some pics ( i had a few of the big tow truck but they are very blurry as it was dark by then): http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/lukera/IM000022.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/lukera/IM000026.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/lukera/IM000029.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/lukera/IM000032.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/lukera/IM000034.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/lukera/IM000040.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/lukera/IM000051.jpg the old dodge didn't get stuck, but couldn't get him out either. conclusion: we are rookies and we had stock vehicles. tomorrow i'm buying the RE 3.5SF kit and 33 pro comp tires. i hope this will help Lesson learned: no, but it might be good to have a recovery plan for next time ![]()

Way to get out there, I used to wheel stock rigs for the forest circus all the time.
The lift and tires will definitely help in that mud, give you clearance and better traction. I'd personally go with the 4.5" lift from the looks of it you like to have fun and wont be satisfied for long w/ the 3.5"

Wow, I guess you can wheel with racing slicks, lol. That is pretty mucky for a stock TJ with Get Stuck Anywheres!

yeah i would like to get a 4.5 but it starts to get really costly.
and i don't think 33's would look very good with that much lift, no? |

It would look fine, but I understand the $$ issue, but once you arent satisfied w/ that lift your going to have to shell out the extra doe anyways and will be more costly in the long run.

next, you guys gotta learn how to winch safely!! That's not good to connect the steel cable to itself like that. Nice pictures though! Looks like you had a helluva time!

lol, yeah i know.
we weren't winching but i was being pulled out. we were jerking like crazy on that cable and it didn't snap...yet. there are a few loose strands on it now though....don't worry upgrades are a commin'! the reason we hooked the cable back on itself is that whoever owned the jeep before me installed the tow hook backwards so i couldn't hook the cable right on to it. i still havent put the hooks on properly though. |

You made it out safely, just lookin out for a fellow Jeeper! It's a precautionary measure than can save yours and other bystanders lives. I've never seen a steel cable snap and I plan on keeping it that way
