Jeeps gone wild badlands jan. 3

Conditions were absolutely perfect for this run which allowed everyone to try obstacles they normal wouldn't have. We pointed out bypasses at certain obstacles but, few were taken and carnage insued. todays carnage involved a smashed tj hardtop, bent rocker and door on an xj, broken dana 35. here's a few pics

Looks like you guys and gals hit lots of trails including the Orange, Blue, The Creek, Dunes, Hilly Green, Rocky Orange, Rock Quarry and more. I love the Rocky Orange & Hilly Green trails. It also looks like Jeff showed you that scary turn on those last 2 pictures. Did you get a chance to run the Red trail?

I'm glad everyone had a blast & got home safely!

Here's my story....

Well I was sure I wouldn't be wheeling again until March....our clubs next planned run, but then mascun decided to post up an invite for a fun run. As it turns out my 7 year old daughters were having a slumber party on the same day...so the wife told me to go wheeling. I guess they didn't want me around.

I managed to get about 3 hours sleep, before waking up at 3am. With mascun wanting to meet at 9am, Indy time, I needed to start super early. I lose an hour going to the park, and it takes me about 3 1/2 hours to get there. Yes it's a long drive, but it's usually worth it.

I arrived at the Badlands 15 minutes prior to the gates opening at 9am. mascun and his buddy Pat were not far behind.

We ended up having 6 jeeps, 5 Wranglers and an XJ.

Just minutes before heading out to the trails.

mascun and Pat had been to the park the day before, so they arrived a bit muddy. They blamed it all on one mud hole on orange...other than that they said conditions were great.

I didn't take any pictures until about the midway point. We made pretty good progress...even passed a group from Extreme Jeeps along the way.

Starting Orange.

Here Cowboy attempts to climb out of Orange...midway point.

At the midway point you can choose to take the fire road back to the parking area or drop back into the trail...we dropped back in.

mascun negotiating some of the obstacles found on Orange.

We found that mudhole that mascun and Pat hit on Friday...we all went around it....except for Rob.

Rob needing a hand.

Rob getting a hand.

We opted to take the rocky section of Organe...last time there I bypassed a rocky climb section, but this time we all attempted it.

mhardw3 uses a lot of skinny pedal to make it to the top

Cowboy uses the skinny pedal too...but a hop to the right.....

........caused this...ouch!

Rob didn't need quite as much skinny pedal.

After finishing up Orange we headed over to Green. I've never run the entire Green Trail....I likey. There are a lot of steep climbs and steep decents, and a few rocks along the way. I had no time to snap any pics until the end. I never did get any video...my new camera mount is supposed to be here Tuesday.

mascun coming out of Green.

We headed over the the quarry and played around just a bit.

Cowboy climbing the wall.

mascun coming down the wall.

We headed "Kevins Trail" then to the creek...which is also part of Green.

Rob on Kevins Trail.

Cowboy in the ravine...it's pretty cool down in there.

Rob hitting a puddle...with quite a bit of ice.

Cowboy climbing out.

mascun getting ready to wade through.

Getting through was easier than getting out...but mascun makes it too.

Rob heading down to the creek.

Rob just misses the tree on the right.

Instead of going right down the creek, as I have always done before, we headed across the creek.

A shot of me, as we cross over.

After the cross over there is a big up hill climb, then you make your way back into the creek.

We went around the tubes and continued up the creek.

mascun is in there somewhere.

We made our way out of the creek, up a couple of climbs and across a section of dunes. mascun wanted to show us a climb with the ravine down the middle.

Rob climbs up the ravine...it's steeper than it looks.

Cowboy climbs out too.
