Jeeps Gone Wild Badlands 9/14 aka Hurricane Ike Run

Well we knew it would be a wet run...I just don't think everyone realized just how wet we would be! We all meet around 9:30 at the park office. Got checked in and started airing down and getting disco'd. In the mean time Jerry went down to the lower parking lot and found this canopy where he was able to stay all nice and dry but forgot to tell the rest of us until we were about done its alright though. There were 11 Jeeps total, quite a few new guys, but it turned out to be an awesome run. We even picked up a few odd Jeeps that were going to go out and play alone, but we were more than happy to let them join in!
In the parking lot before heading to the quarry

This is on the way back to the quarry, it had already been raining that morning so things were pretty wet already

most went through the big puddle, others went around

once we got in the quarry we all drove around to get the kinks out, then everyone just started playing

I thought my tire was off the ground here....It didn't make much sense at the time....now I see why

After everyone got more comfy behind the wheel it was wall time!! everyone made it up, some easier than others

The LJ had 2 things working against him: the wheel base and bald tires, but with lots of skinny he got up

well....remember when I said some made it up easier than others....well here comes Rod

Rod didn't make it up on the first try...so I had to give him a hard time and told him "hey Rod! All the TJs made it up just fine" so Rod decided to give it a lot of skinny pedal here....well, if you look at all of our faces, you'll be able to tell what we heard

and this is what we heard

and this

Drivers side inner and outer axle shafts and U-joint - $80
Time it took to replace the shaft - 45 minutes
Rod not getting shown up by a bunch of TJs - Priceless

While Rod and James where changing the shafts the rest of us went exploring in the quarry and found this little gem all the way in the back by the pond

There were two parts to this climb, this is the lower part and in the second pic Jerry is standing on the top part. You needed traction and ground clearance. This rubi had one of the above, but wasn't able to make it up due to the low stance

Robert was pretty pumped after he made it up! I don't blame him, it was a sweet climb!

This is the Red Rubi again, his name was Jeffrey, He and his son came out for the day with no ideas what we had in store for him! I do have to say, he is persistent, here he is giving it another go, but didn't make it again

Here is Connor and his TJ with a 2" lift and open carriers, he made it up just fine, it was all because of that low stance Jeffrey!

We headed back to see how Rod was doing, I did a quick climb for some photo ops

Now it was time for some group photos while the rain had let up

Great write up! Looks like a good time for sure. I like the pics in your bucket with the lights on...they look pretty cool.

That step up hill back by the pond is pretty cool. The first time I came across it was on my trip down in the rain. Seems pretty straight up while you climb it, quite a bit of sky in the windshield. I took my girls up it on my fathers day trip...lots of screams.

I'll be checking back for more pics and stories!

PS..what about "GRIBBLES-N-BITS" for a name?

I was going to say something about that, but it doesn't look like he's checking out his sway bar
