Day 4: Stopped at Artist's Drive on the way out of the park, stopped at some dunes off the side of the road on the way home. Lots more to see here. DV is the largest National Park in the continental US, and its packed with amazing history and geology.
Beautiful pictures! Looks super cool to visit and camp.
I suppose I could google the castle (or that house), but what's the story behind it?
Some crazy rich guy built a massive castle out in the middle of nowhere. If I remember correctly, he had railroad money but always wanted to be a cowboy. He bought a bunch of land there thinking it had gold but it didn't. I toured it as a kid, its a huge compound. But didn't this time because it cost like $20 a person or something like that. Its a tiny patch of private property inside the park. There are springs there that water a grassy area shaded by giant palm trees, so its a nice place to have lunch. The building is gorgeous.
