Black Hills - Jeep Camp

T&T and crew headed up to South Dakota last week for the annual Jeep Camp event put on by the Black Hills Jeep Club held outside of Deadwood. They had been having alot of rain but the weather cooperated beautifully during the event.

The last section of Hal Johns had a waterfall that was the highlight of the trail. Sometime late last summer/early fall mother nature decided to close it off...... to most rigs anyway

The last day of the event on our way out of a trail called Ice Man a Jeep TJ decided to have a disagreement with it's 9".

Here you see our shop Forman Mike with his eyes closed hoping it's all a dream

It broke right at the flange, luckily there was enough area left to weld it back together and reinstall the bearing and retainer. We put the axle back in and were able to get the Jeep off the trail.

No, we only had two rigs in the group that could have done it and even then it can't be done without body damage. There's some YouTube videos of guys doing it if you want to see how it's done. 99% of the time they hit the right rear corner of the tub.

Is this held on private property?
We are thinking about a Black Hills run next summer for our big trip.
Is this somewhere we can go?

All trails are public. They can be hard to find so I would suggest contacting Black Hills Jeep Club before you go or coming out during next years Jeep Camp.

I love that area of South Dakota.
I drove past that waterfall on my atv when I was out there and it looked impressive. That was before the rock came down.

Great pictures.
