Badlands May 29, 2011

There were four of us. Kellerumps, his buddy Dozer, nwiTJdave, and myself. I met up with Kellerumps and Dozer in Paris, Illinois and we convoyed north. nwiTJdave had to head south to meet up at the park. After getting checked in and aired down we headed for the trails. I forgot to reset my trip meter so I am unsure of the mileage we achieved. I do know we ran a lot of trails. We started on what I call Anthony's trail. As you come down the hill from the upper lot you keep going straight and towards the end you hang a right. The trail was covered by a lake so we headed up towards higher ground on a trail that runs parallel with Anthony's trail. It was still pretty wet but manageable.

After leaving Anthony's trail we headed toward Green. Dave nearly got into a perdicament trying to go down this dune.

Onto Green

After green we headed to the quarry. I didn't get a lot of pictures there but I know Keller did. We ran Kevin's trail then went down by the creek. At that point Dave realized he had just about toasted his tie rod. The creek was pretty high so Keller helped Dave limp to the Badlands shop via the creek and Dozer and I found our own way to avoid the high water.

Kevin's trail

After dropping of Dave at the shop, we had lunch. After lunch we said goodbye to Dave and headed to orange. Keller got us off the main trail somehow into some pretty close to the swamp stuff. We did eventually make it out to the concrete pad.

After Orange we headed back to Green

We headed back to the quarry. We ran the trail to the left of the entrance of the quarry and came out on top of the wall. We then headed down into the quarry and over to the rim trail. When we got to the creek we headed under the bridge and out. I had water a couple inches above my door but luckily it did not breach the door seal.

We headed back and ran Anthony's trail backwards as I had to get home. I ended up getting stuck pretty good on a hill pinned between a tree behind me and a tree on my drivers door. Keller found another way around and I used him as an anchor to winch myself up. After that we all headed home. It was a pretty good day minus the winching and Dave's tie rod.
