Badlands: June 6, 2009 a JGW Open Run.

My buddy (Stu64) and I headed down to the badlands at 0600 this morning. It takes over 3 hours to hget there, which means we didn't get there when everyone else did.

We made our way down to the lower lot, diconnected, aired down, and I dropped the top. I wanted to go down topless but the threat of rain on the way home scared me out of that....it never rained, but it sure did cool off.

As we were just about ready to head for the Orange Trail, thinking we'd find somebody from the club, a group of club members came by, so we joined in.

Heading for the Orange Trail.

Stu64 climbing the first big hill on Orange.

Northsidejeepin dropping into the better parts of Orange.

There are always choices to be made on the Orange Trail, one of those choices is always easy for me.....avoid the swamp. I've been there, done that once, made it, won't try it again. It seems to get worse with each visit.

That being said.....

4XCrazyXJ choosing to do the swamp...what a surprise.

It's starting to get interesting.

It's right about here she started to wonder if taking the doors off was such a good idea.

4XCrazyXJ may have been stuck, but that didn't keep northsidejeepin from heading on into the swap.

More interesting things starting to happen.

More skinny pedal should work, right?

Northsidejeepin needed winching, then he winched 4XCrazyXJ. Then...

Strizzy took a shot at the swamp monster too.

Strizzy sits a bit lower than Northsidejeepin and it started to show, right about here.

4XCrazyXJ (Zach) goes in after the cable...being as he was already muddy.

Stizzy's winch gave out, and water in the air cleaner was making the jeep give out too.

Nobody likes to see smoke.

Strizzy's got some cleaning to do.

Thankfully after drying out his air cleaner things were ok. We all kind of wonder why the local parts stores close so early on Saturday's when there are hundreds of people breaking things so nearby. I'll bet they are loosing money every weekend.

That'll take a few quarters too.

After getting everyone out of the swamp we took a small lunch break, then finished the first part of Orange, after which we headed to the quarry to look for others.

Rip_1968 climbs the new and unimproved step up.

Stu64 climbs the wall.

After messing around in the quarry for a bit, and finding nobody, most of our group headed back to the parking lot. Being how Stu64 and I had arrived late, we weren't ready to go back. We weren't going to be able to stay until closing time, so we wanted to be sure to hit the creek as well. So Stu64, Rip_1968 headed out to the creek. We did "Kevin's Trail" then went over a little hill I always enjoy....you usually 3 wheel it.

Stu64 3 wheeled it....as did I.

We went around the tubes and on down the creek for a bit, ran into a dam so we turned around and headed to the snack shop. After that we met up with others from the club, in the upper lot. Stu64 and I called it a day, as he was having issues with his exhaust rubbing on his rear drive shaft. We had fun, was worth the trip. I could have stayed all day though....I love wheeling and hanging out with fellow jeepers.

Just to prove I was there....I'm the one on the left...no more chrome grill.

Had a good day, didn't get to see everyone, but enjoyed talking with those of you I did see.

Once I get the photos posted on my website I'll post a link in here.

Until next time......Later.

Thanks Jeff, trail report was great. Can't believe JGW lost another engine to the Badlands though!

Great pics guys and another good reminder about why I hate mud. The older I get, the less I like it! Looks like a lot of good trail riding and some decent obstacles. Might consider the trip for this fall when the trees are in color.

Real crazy mud puppies.... I can't even imagine how long it took them to clean their jeeps....they're probably still doing it.

Thanks....Times like those always remind me why I stay away from mud as well. I'd hate to get my daily driver that dirty. It's worth the trip too.

Great report, Jeff.

I don't think we'll know the final tally for the water damage from this recent run. Seth, had a hydro-locked engine and was towed to the upper lot by a Rat Patrol member, thanks to him . Zach pulled his plugs and then hit the starter - shower time! Darn, I didn't think to video that! Apparently, he got it running. Hopefully he's got no lasting damage.

I saw plenty of Jeepers with their radiator covered in mud, to many more hit the water. Hopefully, no lasting damage there.

I haven't had time to review my camera yet, hopefully tomorrow. I had to clean the Jeep, mow 2 lawns, and attend a graduation party.

Thanks Anthony. I'm ready for more wheeling.

These are crops of the pics of 4XCraxyXJ and Strizzy, from above.

4XCrazyXJ

Strizzy

You get a better idea of why Strizzy got some water in his air filter this way.
