what other motor 78 jeep truck

I need to know what other motors will fit in my truck. I bought this 1978 jeep truck auto trans 4x4. the 360 in it was blown and I wana replace it with anything I can find. I need to know what all will bolt up. any info will be apreciated

The only other motors that can be used are AMC specific motors: 258 I-6; 304, 360, or 401 V-8s. The auto tranny used was an AMC-cased Turbo Hydromatic 400. Finding a 258 or 360 is usually not a problem. 304-powered J trucks were pretty gutless and 401s are by far the best (and most difficult to find) motors.

just remimber that the 304, 360, and the 401 are all the same block so you could just start with somethin and go from there.
