what is this fitting for

1990 gw auto has this threaded fitting going to hard line and then to the engine comp. It is routed along fuel line but can't tell what it is or goes to. Any ideas

That may very well be your TC vent tube. The fitting is pressed in on some TC and it may have come out.

It should be hooked up most likely the TC case breather or a diff breather

I will look for the right location after I get my Jetta out of my shop (stinking EGR cooler.......... arrrrrrrrgh)
I am assuming that it should be upper passenger side of TC right?

It's to keep water out of the trans/tcase or whatever it's attached to during water crossings.
