Wagoneer Help

A friend of my brother is selling his 85 Grand Wagoneer. It has a new engine (258) and it runs. The problem is is does not drive. He said that he was going down a hill and heard a pop. He had much of the drivetrain replaced before. But not the tranny or transfer case. He said that he suspects the chain in the transfer case. The truck will start but will not go in gear. Anyone have any clue? And what would you say the value of this vehicle is. The interior panels in the back are missing (water was leaking in). He sprayed the floors with that truck bed coating. All rust has been repaired except a spot where some water leaked in near the pedals. Any help would be appreciated.

It had a bad engine (360) that I rebuilt and put in my CJ. We then sold it with no engine for $1,000 - pretty good deal I think!
