Smell of Gas while driving.
This may be a big deal, so I'd like some opinions and advice. I just put in the original 1979/1980 plastic gas tank and filled it up and put about 35 miles total traffic city miles in a week. This burned up half the tank, a good 10 gallons, which is disheartening to be getting 4 mpg if that. I also smell gas the whole time but see no obvious leaks at any time when stopped, and the first thing in my mind is that I'm leaking half my gas that I should be burning, somewhere.
To get this thing started, I had to rebuild the carburetor. Could I be smelling gas because the carb needs to be tuned correctly? Also, if you've replaced all your fuel lines, which I have not, how did you go about it with the rigid steel lines that come stock underneath, did you just replace the whole length with new solid line?
I'm afraid I may have to drop the tank after installing it and doing all this work from tank to carburetor to be sure, but I hope not.
