Slack in drivetrain

i have an 81 wagoneer when first accelerating and or letting off gas i have some slack, make's an unpleasant clunking noise.... any suggestions on how to fix??

Start by checking out the ujoints on the rear driveshaft.

Driver side motor mount. Open hood watch engine and power brake it from drive to reverse lightly not trying to blow up trans or smoke tires :-). You will likely see the engine lift a lot on one side. On mine I found literally all 3 bolts missing from the driver side mount plate where it attached to the block. Installed bolts solved issue.

Also check for slack in the tcase chain.

Also check mounts on the transmission and transfer case. I had this problem when I first bought my jeep. I found my trans mount broken AND the bolts missing.

What transfer case do you have? Probably a 208.

'81 would be NP208 or NP219 (same as the one I'm selling for $100)
