Reverse Lights on in neutral

I know its the shifter (auto) that isn't lining up right. the question is haw do you adjust it and how do you take off the covers without damage? finally decided I was tired of baking up in the dark.

If it's shifting into the right gear then it's probably a broken or maladjusted reverse/neutral switch. It's on the driver side of the transmission case.
