replacing burnt wires

So i've had plenty of electrical issues so far with this jeep and the current one being that the battery doesn't recharge and something is drawing on the battery all the time. It totally died on me while i was driving last friday and i finally got to look at it today. The red wire that is a part of the plug that hooks into the side of the alternator is broken and the red from the battery that is held on with the nut at the back of the alternator is burnt (i think from the exhaust manifold). so 1: could this be my problem? and 2: can i replace these two wires with out getting a whole new harness? I think i found the one for the plug AutoZone.com | Electrical Pigtail | Delco alternator pigtail
is the other wire just a matter of getting the right gauge wire from a hardware/ auto parts store and putting the leads on it? or can i buy it from some where? any help and advice is great.

thanks,
-Tom
