Rebuilding 360 out of 86 wagoneer, questions, advice

I took the AMC 360 out of my 86 grand wagoneer like half a year ago and i have yet to do anything with it. Im currently in college and know some basics but my father is very mechanically inclined. We disassembled the engine leaving just the block right now. I took the pistons into machine tool (when iwas in high school) and got them all cleaned up. Just used a parts washer and removed rings. We were just going to change all the gaskets until my dad decided we should just rebuild it. It had about 120,xxx miles. We already have a mild cam, holley 4-barrel, used edlebrock intake and hedman headers. Im pretty sure we have new lifters but not sure about rockers or rods. I would like this engine to be rebuilt with better than stock horsepower and performance. I dont plan on changing the crankshaft but new bearings are a must. With the step up in performance from the cam im trying to get some estimates from local engine shops on prices for honing or boring out the cylinders and also "cleaning" up the engine. They would also be rebuilding it because of school, work, divorce, etc..no time.
I dont know which way to go with it. Do u think im on the right track or do u have any advice on performance mods and other things to consider. I was thinking about D.U.I (not sure if thats it) performance distributor. Im getting my tax return soon, over a thousand dollars. Im willing to spend under 1000 though. Im not looking to get a new head unless u recommend one that wont blow my budget. Also i need a new engine harness. Do u know where i can get one and about how much its going to cost. the old one was spliced, taped, melted; just a wreck. Any advice would be great
