odd question

I have the opportunity to buy a $600 1984 cherokee chief. I have a 1979 cherokee chief that needs a few parts. Will anything off the '84 fit on my '79 or is everything different between the two?

If dash is the same (not sure when they went to the plastic dash) then yes

How about stuff like the headliner and the door panels? I also need window regulators, so did 1984 have manual windows that I could use the regulators from?

Different transmission. Different axles. Different transfer case. 1980 was a watershed year for these Jeeps.

Same engine. Body shell is mostly the same. Most of the trim and interior pieces are the same. Pretty sure a Cherokee could have had power or manual windows depending on the trim level. The door latches are different (mid '79 change), but I'd expect the window mechanisms to be the same.

all the body and interior (except dash if it is different)
Door latch can be switched from your old doors to your new ones

If he's got a 79 chief, I'm sure he's not asking if parts from an XJ would fit

84 Is when they started the little cherokees. Don't know when they quit the FS Cherokees.

The 82 is the same body as mine, but the 84 has the lines of an XJ Cherokee so that's why I'm not sure how parts will change over.

It's got an inline 6 that's been rebuilt but isn't bolted in sitting in it, otherwise I'm told it ran before the original engine (inline six not included with the sale) blew. So i guess I get a new engine with it. I'm looking at the stuff I mentioned a few posts up such as manual window door panels, manual window regulators (more importantly the window channels on the regulators), the headliner or at least backboard, etc. Thats about all I need for my truck right now but I can't find most of those parts anywhere.

I know bjs has the headliner fabric, and I was gonna use foam core board for the back board, but I can't find a place to get the other parts on that list.

None of the door or window parts will work, nor the headliner
