newbie with some startup problems

I have a 88 grand wagoneer.

I was driving a couple months ago and the lights flikered out and the car stopped while i was heading up hill. when i l was working on the car the next morning i noticed that the car would start up and idle but if i accelerated this circuit breaker would pop and the car would have to cool down a day before it would run again without popping the breaker.

my father noticed that the starter relay had snapped off of its anchor and was bouncing around the engine attached to its wires so we decided that might be the leading cause.

however after replacing it the engine was still having the same problem.
I went off to college for a couple months and when i came back the car was simply not turning on. none of the electronics have engaged when i turn the key, right now im charging the battery but if anyone could give me some insight on what may be wrong that would be a great help.

sorry if the pictures are annoying, i thought they might be a help

Not sure what happened with it, but that doesn't look like a stock setup.
