New and need help

I bought my first jeep a few mouths ago I got an 86 grand wagoneer
towed it home because didn't have time to finsh it all the drive lines were off and trans linkage and lines after getting it home I install all that was missing only to find out the wrong flex plate was on the thing pull tranny and replaced flex plate after putting it all back toghther again it still does not move I have no fluid pumping to the cooler. What are the chances the front pump is bad and if it is can I replace just the pump or do I have to tear down the whe tranny

thanks Paul

When you put the torque converter on, are you 100% sure you engaged it all the way, you have to spin it and put at the same time until it goes all the way down, if you don't do this properly, it can do what you are describing.

I am pretty sure I lined the tc up right but not sure what happened with the previous owner
can I change the pump by it self or do I need a full rebuild? One more thing I noticed was I would move the lever from high to low and it jumps foward a tiny bit but that's it

OUCH! I already know where this goes! Someone swapped the motor with an older ('74 to '79) and the pilot sleeve for the TH400 trans was left in, which punched the front pump of the trans with the converter.

Pilot sleeve is a thin piece of metal that's inserted into the crankshaft to center the TH400 torque converter. The hole in the crank was factory drilled to accommodate a 727 converter which is bigger, so they used the sleeve to fill in the extra space.
The way to tell is to test fit the 727 converter to the motor. If it doesn't go all the way in, then the sleeve is in there.

It looks sort of like this, only it doesn't have a lip on it
