new to jeeps. wagoneer questions.

alright i just scored a 88 wagoneer for 100 bucks this morning. runs great once started. its got a bit of a problem with starting. and once it gets hot it hesitates during acceleration. The motor is an amc 360. (i believe) now as per the normal vehicles i work on. which all have simple 305s and 350s. ive now stumbled upon this, rat nest resembling mess. i dont even know where to start.

also how hard is it to lift this. i assume not too hard as its all leafs but my question is not in the lift but more towards the steering and breaks and stuff. i know on my old k10 it was hell lifting. just curious if im in for about the same headache.

thank you.
(ill figure out how to get pictures goin soon.)

4-6" lift will bolt on with nothing other than extended brake lines and a drop pitman arm required. BJ's sells a good lift kit. 4" will run 32's on stock wheels 6" will run 33's but will rub a little on the trail. look at my rig in the registry.

Look for vacuum leaks, it's bound to have some and plays hell on these motors. Start there.

We carry a lot of parts for these, Full-Size Jeep Parts (Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer, Full-Size Cherokee and J-truck)

Most of these rigs will benefit greatly with a rebuilt carb and like Cutter said, some vacuum line cleanup.

Also, your rig is a 1988 GRAND Wagoneer. If you go to an auto parts store and tell them you have a Wagoneer, they will get parts for an XJ Cherokee (which with woodgrain was called a Wagoneer). The full-size Wagoneer stopped being made in 1983.

You could do a spring over axle kit but to do it correctly requires crossover steering or high-steer.

View the Front SOA Kit and Rear Shackle Flip Kit! at http://www.bjsoffroad.com

Crossover steering:

My suggestion is to save your money and do it right if you decide to go lift kit.
