Got the pipe installed as well as the new rear window channel. What a pain in the *** the window was. Pipe bolted right on. Nice to not have the exhaust pumping right into the cabin and giving the family headaches

Got a price quote today for paint... $2000. This is with me removing all the vinyl, wood trim, lights, door handles, roof rack, grille, etc. He said the bumpers were up to me because they could tape them off and work around them. They will also repair 2 small door dings.

I've never had a vehicle painted before. Is there anything I should question? Paint brand or anything about process? It's a smaller local shop, and they had 2 older cars they had just finished painting on site. One was from the 50's and they were doing a full restoration on. They were doing the interior while I was there. The paint on those two cars looked really good.

I still plan to get a couple more quotes. Any advice from someone with experience would be appreciated.

Billy

The quote you got seems good for dent repair, primer, paint and clear coat. There are all kinds of different paint jobs. Some only do a top single spray (500-600) to 15000 custom paints. May want to see if there any google reviews on them. Checking out more than one paint job would help as well. They are at least asking you to remove all chrome which is good as its not that easy to tape all that stuff.

Woody is back home!

Well, I was hoping to drive the ole GW to Myrtle Beach for the holidays, but the dealership did not have it done. FINALLY got a call this morning letting me know it was ready.

I had the following work done:
new drive belts
plugs/wires
front/rear diff fluid changed
new radiator
transfer case fluid replaced & shifter seals(whatever those are)
transmission filter/fluid replaced
heater hoses replaced

I'm glad to have it back home! Ironically I passed a GW on the way home!

Now that the holiday season is over I'm ready to start restoring those wheels!

Been gone for a minute but back again...

So after looking at TONS of pics/vids on line of Grand Wagoneers... deciding on what my "dream" Woody should look like, I have changed my mind on the wheels. I was originally going to restore a set of the '88-91 wheels(acquired from my homeboy "RockRollin"... shout out!!!). Well, I saw a Youtube vid of an '87 with the classic gold painted wheels, BUT there was no paint on them. I'm guessing they were blasted clean & polished! LOOKED AWESOME! To be honest, the MAIN thing I disliked about the original wheels was the gold paint. Anyways... I'll be riding on the other wheels while I get these guys blasted & polished(possibly clear coated). I can not wait to see the finished product with new lug nuts, rubber, & centers!

On another note: Does anyone know where to find some new or nearly new center caps? Mine are faded and dinged up BAD. teamgrandwagoneer wants $150 each BUT they are new in the box! Soooo tempted, but there has got to be a more economical option. Suggestions?

I see a lot of caps on craigslist, also try ifsja. They shouldn't be too hard to come by. I just polished a set and repainted the logo, and while having some scuff on one, from 15' they look incredible. I then installed them on my dirty wheels. They do clean up good, hard to hurt that chrome

Cup holder/console

I had an old cheap plastic cup holder to sit on the "hump", but it got trashed when I cleaned up the interior and replaced the carpet. I can not seem to find anything that is not super cheap and flimsy. Now, I've seen pics of Grand Wagoneers with nice wooden cup holder/consoles but can not find them anywhere... Haven't done any woodworking in a while, so let's try to throw something together

I have all the pieces cut(very rough)...

I'll try to finish it up tomorrow

Smoothed everything out by sanding as long as my patience would allow. It certainly has that "handcrafted" look!

I'm happy with it so far. Can't wait to finish staining and assemble the final product
