J20 Clutch and T.O. Bearing - Can anyone help me?

Hello to all. I posted here a while back about my 78 J20, and a problem I was having with the bearing retainer on the transmission. To make a long story short, the shaft on the bearing retainer where the TO bearing slides was worn out, and it broke off. I could not find a replacement one anywhere. It is the 10" long retainer, and I was able to find a similar retainer, same length and same ID, but the OD was was larger.

After a lot checking around, I was able to find a larger TO bearing that was similar to original bearing and would fit over the new, larger dia. shaft on the new retainer. I got it all put back together and now the problem. It will not release the pressure plate.

I adjusted the clutch all the way up, but no matter what I did, depressing the clutch peddle would not disengage the clutch. I took it back apart trying to figure out why. I could not see where the problem was. I thought the clutch disc was in backwards, but it was not. After I got it back today, I was hoping the best, but there was no change.

I am going to take it back apart next week and do some more thinking. It crossed my mine that maybe the problem is the TO Bearing. It is larger in diameter than the OEM one by about 3/8 to 1/2". I didn't measure it, but I will when I tear it back down. I was thinking that the larger diameter will not push the PP arms down correctly, and is binding. The PP and clutch disk are new.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Ken M

I see you already asked this on IFSJA. Someone responded at the end of your thread, but I didn't see you post about it again. Bump it!

Thanks. Yes that was a while ago. I somewhat solved that problem, but now I have this new one. I'll bring that post back to life and see if anyone over there has any advice.
