J10 Width??

Trying to insure that my new 1977 Jeep J10 can be hauled with a UHaul Auto Transport Trailer. There specs say largest size is 133 wheelbase and 79.25 for the width. I found the wheelbase is 131 but I don't know the width? Does anyone know the width with stock rims?

Thanks

Not sure about the j10's, but my 74 wagoneer fit on one, barely.

I've been wondering the same thing since I may need a u-haul to go get my 78 J10, and it's 240 miles away.:(

Looked in my shop manual for 78, (I'd assume 77 would be the same) so here's some specs, "original" specs anyway for the J10.

w/b 118.7 or 130.7
overall length 192.5 or 204.5
front overhang 29.9
rear overhang 43.9
overall width 78.9
front tread 63.3
rear tread 63.8

Well after typing that I'm not sure what the width would be on the outside of the tires. :dunno: I's think the overall width would include the body, and the front & rear tread would be from the center of each tire.

So basically all this information is useless! You should probably have someone measure it to be sure, sorry!

My '78 J20 with 33/12.50/16.5's measures 78.5" outside to outside at the bulge of the tire.

This picture was taken looking down from the middle of the front fender flare. The bottom of the tire can just be seen.

Thanks for the information guys! I'm going to call some equipment rental places to find a little bigger trailer than Uhauls.

Years ago I had to haul my J-10 a short distance when I moved. U-Haul would not rent a transport trailer to me when I told them what I was hauling. They said the weight exceeded the limit of their trailer. I went to another U-Haul place and lied telling them I was hauling a baby Cherokee. When I loaded the J-10, it fit with 31-10.50X15's, with VERY little to spare.

Also keep an eye on the height of the sides. My trailer will squeeze a cherokee chief onto it (just barely), but to fit the j10 with the flat tires, the bumper of the truck was too wide (since it was lower due to the flats), and got cut off.

Couldn't find a bigger trailer so going with the Uhaul - I'll report after next weekend

How did go? I've used a UHaul trailer to haul my 76 J10. It fit but straps were barely long enough for front tires (31's).

Just got back yesterday. My 1977 Jeep J10 Longbed fit perfect on the Uhaul, it has 235/75/15" tires. Only about 2" of spare room on the sides and back of the trailer. Towed very well with my 2008 Chevy 1/2 ton crew cab.
