j10 low gear problem/question

hey guys i just picked up my first jeep and first 4x4 last week and after fooling around with it have a question or two...
1. what is the proper procedure for putting the jeep into 4x4?

and

2. what is the proper procedure for putting it into low?

i have put it in low but when i do the rear tires seam to skip along and dont turn smoothly sooo anyone know what the problem is or experience this before? any advice or assistance is very well apreciated, thanks for the help and sorry for elementry questions

Sounds like you might have different gear ratios in the front and the back. VERY BAD FOR THE TRANSFER CASE!!! Check on that ASAP!

If you're using 4wd on dry pavement the trouble turning and skipping would be normal.

You're not supposed to have it in 4WD on hard, dry surfaces.

ok well to clarify the 4wd isnt the issue that seams to work but the low gear is when it skipps when in 2 low or 4 low

also can anyone tell me the correct procedures for putting in 4wd and low?

If you have tires dragging in 2wd, then you need to open your rear diff to see if you have a locker, spool, or perhaps a welded carrier in there.
