I have my eye on a 69 Wagoneer

A buddy of mine needs some cash and his selling his 69 Wagoneer. It has been sitting for a while but runs and drives. Most of the items it needs (driver side window, interior, etc) I am not too concerned about.
The one kicker is that it has an automatic transmission that does not shift itself any longer and has to be shifted manually.
Any ideas what I might be looking at here for potential fixes and a ball park cost?
It is exactly what I am looking for as a second vehicle, I just don't want to go into it not knowing what kind of upfront cost I am looking at.
Thanks in advance. When I buy it, you will see much more of me on the forum.

Most likely the vacuum modulator and it's vac line is shot or missing. The th400 needs that vac source to auto shift. Change fluid for certain, install a new modulator they are cheap at local part store then snag a length of vac line and attach it direct to manifold vac.

Which motor? That year could still be a Borg Warner automatic if 6 cyl. That's what the 230 OHC motor used. (there's one close to my place.)

If it's a V8 it will probably be a Buick 350cid unless somebody has changed engines. I've had one since 1973 and I'm quite pleased with it. Once the vacuum line fell off my T400 transmission while I was driving. Too long ago to remember exactly what happened but it did cause concern. Lots of later model (AMC) body parts will fit but lots won't.

I've parted out three '68-69 Wagoneers and have a lot of interior and misc. parts. So if you get it check with me about what you might need. Mr. Ed

What no one has noticed or care about is that you live in California. I used to live in California also. I also had a FSJ. Smogging it may end up being your biggest problem ! Go with the seller when he smogs it before he sells it to you and see what the smog guy says. This is the making of ruining a good friendship !

Thanks for all the replies. To answer a few of the questions:
It has the Buick 350.
GeologyJeep, I will keep you in mind when I start seeing what it needs.
dahreno, smog won't be an issue. 74 and older is smog exempt in California. One of the selling points for me.

I went and got it tonight. The brakes are really soft too, but he said he had them completely re-done so I need to check that out too. I am fully expecting this to be an ongoing project. I am excited to get started.
