How much is it worth? (1970 J4000)

I came across a 1970 J4000 350 Short bed today, and I was talking to the guy. Its has really crappy body work and a paint job done on it 6 years ago. It has a Buick 350 swap with the original 3 speed??? on the floor. He says the truck drives fine and 4x4 works. I see the floors have been repaired.

He says he'll sell it to me for $200. Its a pretty rough truck, but its really not all that bad. It looks great from 20 feet away. It also needs brakes.

I was just wondering how much they are actually worth.

A J4000 won't be a short bed- that was the long bed version, the J2000 was the short bed. The Buick 350 can possibly be stock. The J trucks and Wags had Buicks in them from 68 to 71. You can't lose for $200 especially if it runs. Go to www.ifsja.org and you can see that there are a lot of FSJ fanatics out there that can get you most any part you'd like.

teh axles that are in it are worth about $350-$500 each depending on the condition. and than the trany t-case combos will bring about $300 together, and the motor is basicly worth less. you can get about $200-$300 woth of scrap out of whats left after pulling those parts. spesialy that 350 cause it is a heavy SOB.

so yah its a smoking deal... to part out

as far as a builder goes, no its worthless. the motor sucks the trany is only worth something to the CJ guys and the t-case is only worth it to some one with a burnt up unit. as far as axles you should have a Pass. drop 8 lug full width 44. and a 60 rear. the rear is drum and the front may also be. if so it is only worth about $300, the rear is about the only thing worth keeping and lifts are where things realy get bad cause no one makes one for the 4000's.

I say get it chop it, part it and take the $1500 you make and buy a 82-84 cherokee 2 door fullwidth with a 727 208 combo behind eather a 360 or 390. keep the 60 rear from the j-truck and get a ford 60 to mach the front. SOA and shackle flip the rear with a lift shacle and through some 38-40's on and have a bad *** rig for under $3000.

So theres no way i'll lose any money on this thing??? I went and looked at it again the other day, and its defiantly a short bed. No doubt about that. But it also says j4000. I'll check to see what kind of axels are under it.

Someone may have combined 2 rigs to assemble this thing enough to have a title. The axles should be 5 lug unless it was a camper special. (even my '73 J4000 had 5 lug Dana 60 rear)
