Still need to run some 'body filler' to smooth out where my welds are. None of them are pretty, but this is my first welder, and first welding project. Most of it is 16ga to 18ga.

Man that is a hell of a lot of work! Should be good at welding by the time you get this done.

Thanks guys. The XJ's my buddy's. So was the bad-*** chief.

Got the back all welded, ground, and painted. The rest of the back will open with the hatch. I've got big dogs, so the more room the better.
Front is welded, but no one should see my welds yet Need to fill a spot on each side of the window. When I first made it, I just put straight edges in, not knowing how big the window would be.

Can't wait until this is done! Very excited. Gonna weld all sorts of stuff next.

Did some more welding today, until I ran out of wire with only about 6 inches left.

My welding is getting better, gonna include 1 close-up.

Decided on the paint. Just some spray-can rustoleum textured stuff. Got 1 side kinda painted, I think I'm gonna like it.

So far, I'm still keeping the budget at $0, minus the paint. Not counting the welding wire, either.

Got the 2nd side finished welded. Mostly ground. Still have to fab rear corner for this side. Fighting the rain and wind for grind/weld time. Not having a garage is awesome!

Speaking of wind, the other night it collapsed my super-sturdy support structure I had constructed for the shell to sit on while I worked on it. (see previous photos for support structure) It slightly lifted the cap, blew the rear supports forward, then, as I was running out to it, the wind blew the front suppports out. I managed to catch the front and lower it softer than gravity, but not by much. Only damage was when it blew the roof vent off, and bent the corner of it. My welds may be horribly ugly, but they seem to work

Probably more pics tomorrow

No sleep welding, yet My hands are getting nicely ground, however. And I haven't set myself on fire again yet

Still need to finish the rear corner on driver's side, but got the rest of that side done. Had to toss some paint on it, so I painted it.
