Help! 79 J10

I have a 79 j10 with the amc 360. I am having a problem with the distributor drive gear. It was grinded down and in one spot the teeth were completely gone. Wouldn't it grind all of it the same.

Can you use a mirror and see if the cam gears are worn as well? You might have some bigger problems than just a distributor shaft.

I have the casing off. The distributor is fine the gear on the cam shaft is worn bad. All the teeth on the main distributor gear are worn were they are razor sharp and a 1/4 of the gear is missing all the teeth

Well, we can be positive about this. Now you have an excuse for an rv cam and a DUI ignition system.

That gear bolts on separately. Sounds like either the oil pump was seizing up (got a Fram filter on it?) or the cam was walking and ruined the gears.

New timing gear/chain set should fix things up?
