GW 360 exhaust manifold gaskets
I am re-doing heads on a 360 and have noted that if you purchase only exhaust manifold gaskets (not a complete set of head related gaskets) the gasket coving the 4 and 6 exhaust ports (or 3 & 5 on the other side) does not have gasket material sealing the "divider" between the two ports. If you purchase a complete gasket set, the set includes a 1 piece gasket spanning all ports and does include material sealing the divider. Which one is correct?
Any comments appreciated. Thx

Neither is actually correct. From the factory they didn't use gaskets. The head and manifold both have machined surfaces so no gasket was needed. Now that the manifolds are a few years old and have been heat cycled, taken off and on several times chances are that those machined surfaces are not so flat anymore.
If I were going to use a gasket on a stock exhaust manifold I would only use the gasket that seperates the center two ports. ![]() |

Thank you for comment. Received very similar comment from individual who rebuilds engines and he added that he does not even like the stock gaskets with the material between the ports and throws them out. He has recommended a "mr. gasket ultra seal part # mrg-5950" that has material sealing between ports and uses them on every rebuild to prevent leaks.
