The adapter you got is for a Quadrajet or Thermo-quad. Those carbs have the primary venturies spread further apart than a Jeep spreadbore so that adapter wont match up with the Jeep spreadbore intake. You could use Edel. #8723 which is a 1/2" tall 4 hole wood fiber spacer. Or #8724 which is an 1/2" thick open center wood fiber spacer. The wood fiber spacers will help isolate the carb from the engine heat.

I think Trans-Dapt has an adapter specficly for the Jeep (Motorcraft) spread bore intake to the AFB Carb.

thanks for all your help, i ordered up that adapter and it works great, now the only issue is that my throttle is sticking, not going back to the starting point, so i need to work on that, got new springs and that didn't work, so hopefully I can figure this out soon, the carb works great and she's running like a charm now! (well other than that throttle sticking)
