Can someone tell me about this 77.

My Grandfather bought this new in 77. Haven't seen many others like it. It has the electric rear window, glovebox and cherokee badges on the dash. Any info would be appreciated.

That it is. There is a full time four wheel drive lock in the glovebox and it has a high/low transmission. He's been asking me to get him some more info on it so I thought I'd ask some experts.

Does it have buckets and console? It is sunburst yellow (fairly rare).
AMC did make some four door Chiefs.
This would be a good time for timgr to voice in. He's well versed in the history of these rigs.

Is there anything in particular you want to know about it? You could Google "77 Cherokee chief" and find sites with general information. People here can provide detail info if you know what you're looking for.

Yup, fairly rare, 4 door cherokee cheif. That means its a narrow track, apparently you said it has quadratrac with hi/lo range.

You got a 401 under the hood or a 360? check the vin, if it's a Z in there, it's a 401.

Thanks for the info. Yes it does have the hi/lo. I'll check the vin for the motor size, but I believe it's a 360 in there. Had quite a few problems with vapor locking in it's hardworking life. Looking at a restoration mostly for posterity but wanted to find out what kind of value it might have when done as well. Thanks again.

Probably nothing at all, but I'd be willing to take it off your hands so you don't have to deal with drving it to the scrap yard

I see nothing to indicate that this is a Chief. The medalion with the chief head on it doesn't make it a Chief. It's a Cherokee S. I had a two door just like it at one time.

A Chief will actually say Cherokee Chief on it and it will have the metal fender flares like this two-door, which is also a '77.

I just picked one up myself but it is red. I got it so my boys can learn to work on the mechanical things and not just electronics. Mine is also a 4 door and has a 4 bbl 360. This should be interesting.

Anyone know where I can find a shop manual?

2009 GC Limited. 265 70 18 is the only change to date. Bought some Rubicon 17" wheels and put BFG M/T's on for hunting season OME HD Front, OME MD rear, winch to come, basket and lights bars first

So mine is not a Chief? It is all original except for the grill. I added that. Original paint, original decals, two door, steel fender flares, wide track, flip open rear windows. It even came with the factory AC, brush guard (removed right now) and a safari kit. What makes a Cherokee a Chief besides a sticker?

That is a Chief. The sticker depends on the year. The wider fender flares are the giveaway that it's a Chief. Those only came on the Chief models and the pickups. The axles are also wider.

Look at your fender openings/the flares compared to the OPs.
