Can someone run a VIN for me?

I'm looking to pickup a Grand Wagoneer off a guy, but he lives a couple of hours away from me and I would like to run the VIN to find out what engine, trans, axles, options ect ect ect are on it before making that drive. Would one of you mind helping me out in pulling a build sheet or direct me to someone that can?

Wm

you will probably have to call a dealer ask for parts and let them run it. i dont know how far back they will go.

What year is it? I can probably tell you what axles and transfer case and engine w/o the vin if you just tell me the year of it.

Thanks.

I have parts books (for most Jeeps) that have that info, although the model of the axles are not in the VIN. If you send me the VIN I will look it up for you and tell you.

Here is an axle breakdown:

1976-1979 Wagoneers and Cherokees Dana 44 Axles front and rear
1980-1983 Wagoneers and Cherokees Dana 44 Front and AMC 20 rear
1984-1985 Grand Wagoneer Dana 44 Front and AMC 20 rear
1986-1991 Grand Wagoneer Dana 44 Frond and Rear

Transfer cases:

1976-1979 Wagoneers and Cherokees with Automatic would have a quadratrac
1976-1979 Wagoneers and Cherokees with manual would have Dana 20

1980-1983 Wagoneers and Cherokees would have a NP208, NP229, NP228 or NP219
1984-1991 Grand Wagoneers would have NP208, NP229, NP228 or NP219

If it is a later model GW (like 86-91) it would almost definitely have a NP229 xfer case.

Engines:

1976-1979 Wagoneer and Cherokee would either have a 401 or 360 if it is a V8, 258 if it is a 6-cylinder
1980-1983 Wagoneer and Cherokee would have 360 if V8 or 258 if it is a 6-cylinder
1984-1991 Grand Wagoneer would have a 360 if V8 or 258 if it is a 6-cylinder

Transmissions:

1976-1979 Wagoneer and Cherokee would have a TH400 if Automatic, if manual it could be a few
1980-1983 Wagoneer and Cherokee would have a TF727 if Automatic, if manual probably a T-176
1984-1991 Grand Wagoneer would have a TF727 if automatic and probably T176 if manual

Hope this helps..
