axel shaft u joint problem

So I am doing my axel shaft u joint and I got it all out and was putting it back together and one of my bearing cup's will not seat to the point where I can get the snap ring on. The old u joint bearing cap was also not seated and had no snap ring in place. Does this mean there is a problem with my axel shaft and I need a new one to do this job right.

Usually it means you have one of the needles lying in the bottom of the cup.
