91 Waggy wont hold idle

Truck was running great and as I went to park it it shut off while still in drive. Replaced the fuel filter though it is relatively new(in the last year or so) oriented correctly.
Idle adjustment screw has been set at the same level for at least 2 years. Starts fine and as long as I am on the throttle it runs perfect without hesitation. The second I come off the gas it just shuts off. If there is a vacuum leak I can't find it so anything to look out for let me know. Fuel pump? Need to get her running well as winter is coming and she is my winter car.
Thanks
Caesar

Sounds like vaccum leak to me. Maybe your egr valve is plugged or not operating properly. Does it stumble before it dies or just shuts off? Try spraying some wd40 or equivelent on the base of the carb, when you do this if the idle clears up for a few seconds you have a vacuum leak in that area. Gasket or throttle shaft.

There could be many things causing this, fuel delivery I dont think is a suspect due to it running well other than idle. Vacuum leak possibly. I would first check the idle solinoid, front left on the carb (drivers side). This operates with the key on, opens the plates slightly for idle. It was used to prevent run-on. It may also just have come out of adjustment.

I had a very similar problem in my 87' GW. I rebuilt the carb. This was only after nothing else seemed to fix the issue, like you I tried the idle screw, fuel filter and timing and vacuum leak check. Finally broke down and rebuilt the carb. Problem solved. I think if I were to do it again I would look closely at the bowl float. Here Is my shade tree mechanic theory: If you use gas with lots of ethanol it seeps I to the plastic bowl over time and weighs it down causing the problem you described. Some places sell alcohol free gas, but you pay a premium. Good luck.
