88 Wagoneer I hope it is just a fuel pump?

I have an 88 Wagoneer, and while im driving it sometimes it feels, like its choking for gas. Just recently it has started to die and i quickly need to restart. This choking its more than just choking like I am low on fuel, sometimes it will jerk the car around. Anyways I need help. love my wagoneer to death, so i hope it wont have to come to that.

have you done a tune up lately? new plugs, wires, cap, and rotor? It might be the fuel pump which won't be a cheap fix.

'87 is right, might just need a tune-up.Wouldn't hurt to just replace the fuel pump. I replaced the fuel pump in my '82 last year- $30 and 15 min. to install. Might also be the ignition control module. It's a silver box mounted under the hood, bolted to the drivers fender. Simple to replace, but $80. I've put three in mine. They seem to fail about every 10 months or so, but have a one year warranty.

You might want to check your choke adjustment, assuming you have the Motorcraft 2150......

I just got the same thing happen to mine. I was thinking it might be the cat, and sure enough it was. I was running it and it backfired pretty hard!! Turns out my kids were out there with me and said "hey dad!! something came out of the tail pipe!!" I said "bring it to me" Turns out it was a piece of substraight!! hahahahah Yep the cat is bad!! So I went to go and just use a screw driver to get out all the substraight that was in there and it turns out that there was NO substraight?!?! The screwdriver went right threw!!! Ummmm...... kick the muffler and what do ya know.......... I hear "ROCKS" inside it. (it's the substraight) Seems like it's probably clogging the muffler. You may wanna check the same thing. Honestly, I thougth for sure it was something to do with fuel. But I've installed a new Fuel Pump, filter and tuneup.

Now I am looking for a cat back system. Can anyone point me in the right direction?!?! Decent after market would be nice. How much are we talking?
Thanks,
Rob

Here are a couple places to start. I replaced my cat, muffler and pipes a year ago at a cost of $130. I've found cats from $53-$250. Replacing the cat was like adding 50hp. http://www.discountconverter.com/
