88 Wagoneer exhaust mani/ Y pipe question

I was wondering if there is supposed to be some sort of gasket where the manifold meets the Y pipe. There was nothing when I took it off. Just the concave end of the exhaust manifold and the convex side of the Y pipe connected by two studs. It seems like that wouldn't create a correct seal. Does anyone have any experience with this??

The y pipe image won't upload but it fits directly on to the manifold with a floating flange connection.

There is a paste that Napa carries for exhaust that will help, but this is supposed to be a flexible connection (not that it will ever move)

Nope, there's nothing else there other than where the pipe is belled out to fit that shape of the manifold outlet.
