Heero, I am making an updated diagram of original. I am also going to be taking photgraphs later today to point out all of the details so I can rebuild the vacuum system easier once I have it torn apart. It is rather confusing to me as well!

I'm glad I know enough about these systems to reroute them to my liking. Back in the day, they jury-rigged the emissions in these things just to pass. Taking more modern designs into account, I up the spark (something Jeep should have done when it became available) with a Dodge electronic ignition coil or the Ford TFI one (basically the same as the TFI upgrade)
Then I dump the AIR system and go with a non-aerobic high flow catalytic converter (stock one needs the air. NA cat doesn't and will in fact self destruct if you leave the AIR pump working)
I plug off the lines on the exhaust and hook up the EGR to work like the '74 diagram shows and keep the fuel vapor canister. With everything simplified, I can pass the emission test at levels MUCH lower than required. Last trip I took my '84 J10 through (6 cyl) it passed at low enough numbers to beat '94 regs (they accidentally input the wrong year at the testing station)
